The Principle of Orthokeratology
Custom Accelerated Orthokeratology (CAOK or Ortho-K) is a
non-surgical approach to correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia
(far-sightedness), and astigmatism associated with either condition.
Ortho-K
offers an extremely low risk alternative to LASIK Surgery and is
completely
reversible. This procedure uses specially designed contact lenses which
reshape
or mold the surface of the cornea to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses.
The molding process occurs while you sleep
 |
A specially designed contact lens is placed on the cornea while you sleep to
re-shape the corneal curvature |
 |
The specially designed gas permeable lens fits closer to the cornea
centrally, compared to the standard contact lens, exerting a gentle pressure
on the tear film centrally. |
 |
As gentle pressure is exerted on the tear film centrally, the cornea is
remolded into the peripheral portion of the contact lens.
